Cone flowers are so hard to paint because they are so weird looking. Their core is very dominate with dainty petals jutting off in all directions. Depending on the way the sun hits them will change how the colors are perceived.
Forced myself to work with the largest brush possible to keep this one loose. This was painted from a photo in a recent Plein Air outing in Haywood County. All I can remember was how extraordinarily hot it was that day.
